R. Girardin – Emotional Music out now!

RGirardin-EmotionalMusic_artwork
Thrilled to bring our first release (I know!) of 2018 – R. Girardin’s Emotional Music, out in collaboration with LA based label Zero Grow (label head Elon Katz, who is behind some of our favorite projects – Streetwalker/White Car and is a great artist in his own right).

R. Girardin is a fantastic release, full of accessible synth miniatures, with great artwork to boot. You can purchase the LP from our webshop and at paltoflats.bandcamp.com (or zerogrow.com), and copies are available through fine shops and Rush Hour in the EU.

Read an interview / premiere with R. Girardin at Noisey:

Yasuaki Shimizu – Screening and Release Party tomorrow

Nakano_Pace_02

Palto Flats and Joe Williams (Motion Graphics) are pleased to present an evening celebrating the work of composer Yasuaki Shimizu on Thursday, April 26 at Magick City in Greenpoint, and a belated celebration to the release of our reissue of Shimizu’s classic album ‘Kakashi.’

The evening will begin with a very rare screening of two films Mr. Shimizu scored, presented for the first time from a digital transfer from laserdisc, titled ‘Pace’ (1990) and ‘Watching People’ (1989), directed by Hiroyuki Nakano. The films are fascinating visual / auditory artifacts from a period of deep experimentation, filled with vibrant images and masterfully enriched by Shimizu’s soundtrack.

Immediately following the screening, Palto Flats (Jacob Gorchov) and Joe Williams will play a selection of music from his expansive career as a pop, experimental & classical musician, composer, and producer. Following that tunes will be played by Bookworms (Nicholas Dawson) to close the night.

We will have limited copies of Kakashi on CD/Vinyl available at the screening. Please be sure also to visit the shop section where you can order the repress of Mariah – Utakata No Hibi and Yasuaki Shimizu’s Kakashi.

Midori Takada – Through The Looking Glass to be released March, 2017

TTLG-SLEEVE-2500x2500-WEB

Palto Flats is ecstatic to be partnering with WRWTFWW Records to release Midori Takada’s timeless ambient masterpiece “Through The Looking Glass,” this March, 2017. Known also for her significant work with the Mkwaju Ensemble, this record, Takada’s first as a solo artist, was originally released in 1983 in a limited edition on RCA Japan’s ‘Red Seal’ series. Originally intended as a contemporary classical album, many listeners over the years have discovered it to be a captivating four-song suite, a truly remarkable album that reveals a multitude of depth over countless listens. This reissue, sourced from the original master tapes, features extensive liner notes, and illuminating quotes from Takada on her process in creating the record. Though Palto Flats is only releasing the standard editions, we’re also happy that WRWTFWW is issuing a special audiophile version pressed on two 12″s, cut at 45rpm, as direct transfers from the reel.  Both versions will be housed in tip-on jackets, as the original once was some 30+ years ago.  Midori continues to perform regularly, and will be touring Europe this Spring in support of the reissue. We hope that you will be able to see her play (plans for North American shows are in the works).

A limited quantity will be available for pre-order soon on this website for US customers.  In the meantime, preorders in North America are available here: http://www.forcedexposure.com/Artists/TAKADA.MIDORI.html, and at other fine retailers.

For Europe/World you may order from: http://wrwtfww.com/album/through-the-looking-glass or http://www.wordandsound.de

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating this long awaited release, and Ms. Takada’s wondrous music.
